Policy: 

The SHC uses only approved decontamination/disinfecting agents for general cleaning, processing of instruments, hand hygiene, skin preparation for procedures, etc.  All such agents are approved as indicated by an Infection Control Committee representative.  Information regarding all approved products can be found in the departmental SDS / Hazard Binders and on the Products Use Charts located in the Utility Rooms.

Decontamination: The process of removing rather than destroying microorganisms.
Disinfecting: An intermediate measure between physical decontamination and sterilization.
Sterilizing: The destruction of all forms of microbial life.
