b.) GENERIC FORMAT FOR STANDARDIZED NURSING PROCEDURES

The introduction to the Specialized Nursing Procedure section of the Nursing Manuel will specify the system by which the procedures are developed and reviewed, the criteria for periodic review, and the standards for continuing education. It will also state that all procedures are done only within the setting of the UCSC Student Health Center.

Procedure
Delineates each step in the procedure
 

Experience, Training and/or Education
Describes who can do this Procedure and any specific training or education necessary to be qualified to use this standardized procedure.

Evaluation of Competency
Describes the ways in which initial and on-going ability to use this procedure is determined.

Scope of Supervision
Describes the physician/provider role in supervising this procedure.

Criteria for Provider Consultation and Referral
Describes the situations in which the patient care should be provided in consultation with a MD/NP/PA/DO. Describes situations in which the patient should be referred to a provider for care.

Documentation
Delineates the standards for documentation of the specific procedure.
