SUBJECT: DISINFECTING DIAPHRAGMS

PERSONNEL: RN, MA

EQUIPMENT:

  • BASIN
  • MILD SOAP

PROCEDURE:

Following manufacturer guidelines:

Use designated container located in 2nd Floor Utility Room

  1. Wearing appropriate PPE, prepare mild soapy water solutiuon and soak device for a minimun of 5 minutes. With device submurged in mild soap solution, scrub gently with a soft brush or washcloth for a minimum of 15 seconds, paying particular attention to area under the lip.
  2. Inspect for any visible residue
  3. Rinse well under running water for a minimum of 30 seconds
  4. Line autoclave tray with blue autoclaving wrap
  5. Place temperature indicator strip on tray
  6. Autoclave per manufacturer's instructions: 20-30 minutes at 250 F. See labled setting on autoclave
  7. Allow to air dry
  8. Return to fitting container and return container 2nd Floor Nurse Station

DOCUMENTATION AND FOLLOW-UP:
Diaphragm sizing sets are kept in Floor 2 Nurses station. Check for wear and replace as necessary.
