HEALTH AND SAFETY PROGRAMS, EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS AND DESIGNEES *

Policy: 

The UCSC SHS Health and Safety policy encompasses management and oversight of a wide range of programs to identify and mitigate hazards, such as:

  • hazardous material exposure-usage, storage and disposal
  • emergencies - prevention, evacuation, treatment, 
  • saftey concerns - medication errors, falls or physical injuries
  • potential threats - security (physical, data, electronic etc.)

The UCSC Student Health Services has appointed designees for health and safety programs.  The governing body has designated the appropriate SHS managers to have overall responsibility for health and safety.  Representatives are assigned by the Executive Director.  Individual members take responsibility for the various departments that they manage, to provide any necessary surveillance and trainings. The designees submit reports as appropriate to the governing body.  The governing body approves the written safety policy.

Additionally, Student Health Sevices participates and maintains active involvement in campus and community health and safety programs including but not limited to: Student Services Disaster Preparedness, Institutional Biosafety Committee, adhoc Pandemic Committee, Santa Cruz County Healthcare Coalition and the Santa Cruz County Health Services Organization.

 

The UCSC SHS has the following designees:

The Building and Unit Coordinator = Business Services Director

Alternate Building and Unit Coordinator = Ancillary Services Director

Health and Safety Officer for Enviromental Health and Safety Programs (i.e. Illness and Injury Prevention Program, Safety Data Sheets, Online Waste Tag Program, Disaster Preparedness, Fire and Evacuation Drills, Fire Extinguisher Trainings, Biohazardous Waste, Pharmaceutical Waste etc.) = Ancillary Services Director

UC Ready - Ancillary Services Director

Respiratory Protection Program = Ancillary Services Director

Infection Control = Clinic Director, Patient Care Coordinator, and designated nurse

Employee Health Nurse = designated nurse
