RED CART, AED, AND OXYGEN TANK

SUBJECT: MEDICAL EMERGENCY RESPONSE EQUIPMENT: Daily Checks

PERSONNEL: RN, LVN, MA

EQUIPMENT: RED CART, LIFEPAK 1000 AED (Auotmatic External Debrillator),  Zoll AED Plus, Oxygen tanks, Emergency Response Bags, Suction Machine

AED CHECK: (located West Wing Floor 1 Same Day Care Clinic, West Wing Floor 2 Hallway, East Wing Pharmacy)

RED CART CHECK: (located in West Wing Floor 1 Same Care Care Clinic)

PROCEDURE:

  • Daily the RN, or designee, will verify that cart is sealed. If seal is broken, complete the Red cart checklist& count, reseal and document number.  Notify supervisor for any unexplained broken seals.
  • Monthly the RN or LVN staff will check expiration dates on medications & other equipment with expiration dates.  Expired medications shall be returned to the SHC Pharmacy for replacement. Expired equipment will be removed and replaced.
  • Inventory monthly checklist HC#735a  - Sign and update monthly
  • Daily Red  cart checklist HC#735 - review and sign daily
  • New red seal, with number, if indicated

OXYGEN TANKS CHECK:  (located West Wing Floor 1 SAme Day Care Treatment Room, West Wing Floor 2 Treatment Room, West Wing Basement Lab back hallway)

PROCEDURE:

  • Daily open valve on tanks and check level of O2 left in tank
  • Document daily checks on HC#735
  • Change to new tank when level is low. (below green zone)
  • Close valve after checking.
  • Emergency response bag attached to each tank:

        Daily: verify bag is with eacy oxygen tank

        Monthly:  verify contents and check expiration dates as needed: Oxygen Mask, Nasal Cannula, Oral           Airways, Ambu bag + mask, Blood pressure cuff, stethoscope, CPR on-way valve pocket masks, pulse oximeter, hard copy Emergency Response notes.
