Policy: 

Student Health Outreach and Promotion staff, student interns and volunteers provide services supporting students in maintaining and enhancing their health and wellness as they pursue academic and personal goals.  Services are provided by Health Promotion emphasizing student empowerment, risk reduction, cultural competency and a holistic approach.

Procedure: 

Under the oversight of the Director for Health Promotion & Outreach, the department offers
the following services:

1. Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Abuse Prevention programming aimed at reducing substance abuse and its individual/community harms, primarily through educational and environmental strategies.  All incoming UCSC students are mandated to complete on-line education, called AlcoholEdu for college.

2. HIV and other Sexually Transmitted Infections Prevention through workshops, anonymous HIV testing by peer test counselors, academic classes, special events and the sale and distribution of safer sex supplies.

3. Sexual Violence Prevention Education through workshops, one-on-one meetings, academic lectures,  and special events.  This includes collaborative programming efforts, participation in campus and community programs and task forces and collaboration in the development and dissemination of Health Center communications.

4. Opportunities for students to be involved in health care activities and health promotion services via internships, practicum and volunteer positions.

5. Outreach and liaison activities linking Health Promotion and Student Health Services to the residential colleges and larger communities. This includes collaborative programming efforts, participation in campus and community programs and task forces and collaboration in the development and dissemination of Health Center communications.

6. Non health education clinical services are referred by SHOP Educators to Health Center Clinicians and CAPS.
